Sometimes there is no better way to learn than getting out of the classroom and giving children and young adults a real-life working farm experience. We host educational visits, ranging from nursery and pre-school days out to more structured curriculum-linked options for older pupils, covering a range of topics. We can also offer organised days for students at both A-level and degree level, covering subjects such as business management, farm diversification and retail marketing and branding.
Talks Available ( 1 Included in school packages)
Lambing time – In this talk, children learn about what happens at lambing time, a natural seasonal process that takes place yearly on this Sussex downland and wetland farm. The children learn about the growth of the lamb inside the ewe, the process of birth (and how the farmer sometimes helps!), and the changes that happen as the lamb starts to grow into an adult sheep. This is a seasonal talk
The Chicken and the egg – During this talk one of our animal team will introduce the children to our chicken and cockerel, show off their amazing balancing skills, learn about the different parts of the animal and what they do and learn about life cycles
Lunch Detectives – In this session, we learn about the journey from farm to fork by looking at the contents of a school lunch box. The children will be able to explore where various foods come from and what processes some foodstuffs have to go through before they are ready to eat.
Meet the Small Animals – Learn about the small animals we have living here at the farm. There is also the opportunity to stroke and groom our rabbits and guinea pigs and meet our friendly tortoise Galaxy.
Farm Arts and Crafts – Get creative with things naturally sourced from around the farm e.g. feathers, straw, seeds or even alpaca wool and take your creations back to the classroom.
Days can be tailored to your group’s needs, please get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 01273 488450 to discuss options for educational packages.
