We have a really strong community and environmental philosophy. Here are just a few of things we value and strive to achieve in everything we do:
1. Source from sussex first – we are passionate about supporting our very local farmers and food and drink suppliers because:
- they supply outstanding produce, often at prices that are beat the national supermarkets
- it means food and drink travels less miles which is all good for the environment
- if we can’t get what you need very locally, we search across the South East and then go wider if necessary (but not that often!)
2. Our local community:
- We are equally keen to source all our other products and services locally too. We want to keep our neighbouring businesses busy and local people in work
- Links with schools – we are delighted to support young people with work placements and provide our local schools with vouchers to visit the Farm
- We have a programme with Fairlight Junior School in Brighton that allows them a reduced entry to visit in their classes throughout the year, great for them and very rewarding for us by allowing us to link to one school
- University programmes – we have employed a member of staff through the Knowledge Transfer Partnership graduate scheme at The University of Brighton
- Free entrance to children being supported by Leo House, a local charity helping young people with life-limiting conditions
- Giving the monies from our Live Nativity to charity… and more!
- Hosting the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institute breakfast in January 2012 we helped to raise£600 for this great charity and aim to keep doing our best to support it during 2102
3. Our environment: We are always looking to be more sustainable. Our current green activities include:
- our carrier bags are made from recycled materials
- we sell hessian bags for life to encourage people to avoid plastic bags at all
- we use low energy light bulbs
- we recycle all the paper, cardboard, plastic and glass used across the Farm by us and our visitors
- all our furniture has been bought second hand
- timber has been purchased from the Wood Recycling Project in Brighton to make our shelves and counter in the farm shop
- we are investigating solar panels to provide power for the campsite
- Louise gives time to the South Downs National Park forum
If you have any suggestions on what else we can do we would be delighted to hear from you. It is easy to contact us.
